Get Involved

Enthusiasm and compassion are the prerequisites for our volunteers. Just a few hours of your time can enrich the game day experience for a player with special needs. Email us if you’re interested in any of our volunteering opportunities.  info@mlvw.org

Make a New Friend. Gain a New Perspective.

We are extremely proud of the bonds formed between our buddies and players. The Buddy program has a great impact on all participants. Buddies and players alike learn valuable skills like patience, understanding and compassion. By providing players with a Buddy, parents can enjoy watching their son or daughter play the game and also allows them time to socialize with other parents. Buddies need to be energetic, committed and enthusiastic for the game. Buddies protect and assist the player in batting and running the bases (if needed), and are a friend. Buddies are responsible for their individual player from the time of introduction until the player is back in the care of their parent/guardian. This means that no matter where their player goes the Buddy must go. To be a buddy you need to be at least12 years or older. We ask that you commit to at least one full game day. Our Buddy system pairs each player with a volunteer helper. Buddy training is provided on-site before your shift begins. Working one-on-one with our players will warm your heart and give you a new perspective on life info@mlvw.org

Coaching Opportunities

Coaches are an essential part of the Miracle League of Vancouver. Do you have a few hours or so to spare for practices during the week and one game on the weekends in the spring or fall. We are about having fun!!! We have at least three coaches per team who are responsible for team orientation, assigning and reassigning buddies as needed, pitching to the players, corresponding to the team via email and phone, and ensuring safety on the field.

You may register as a coach if you are at least a junior in high school. Coaches are requested to arrive 30 minutes prior to game time and must participate in a coaches meeting approximately two weeks prior to the start of each season. If you are interested in coaching please contact: craigm@mlvw.org

“Being as thou I don’t have any children of my own, those kiddos allow me to teach them all the fundamentals of baseball like my dad did for me. They give me an overwhelming sense of fulfillment and reward with the excitement and enthusiasm they have whether it’s a practice or a game. Every single one of them gives 110% and it’s so satisfying to see all the friendships that are made with the other teams and the buddies!!”

“As coaches, we feel so blessed to have the opportunity to coach and get to know the athletes and their families. Each of them has qualities that make them so special to us. They are truly unique. It may appear to be organized chaos at times but we really hope that the children enjoy this experience as much as we do!”

Group Opportunities

Group volunteers are the key to our successful buddy program. Church groups, athletic teams, corporate groups, civic groups, and school clubs are just a few examples. Everyone says the same thing: “We can’t wait to do this again!” Volunteering as a group builds camaraderie and a sense of community involvement. It is a lesson that cannot be taught in a classroom, practice field, or board room. Groups should be made up of volunteers ages 12 and up. We require a commitment of at least one full game day. To register your group, please contact info@mlvw.org
